The Week That Was

As I sat here today and wrote my Sunday Social post, I realised I hadn't actually done a normal post since the last Sunday Social. Oops. I'm still pretty terrible at regularly blogging.
This week, I've actually had a few exciting things happen! It's quite rare for me to have more than one exciting thing per week, so here's an update for ya'll:

Monday:
Monday is my one each week that I don't have Uni! Yay! However, I did have some Uni work to do. Spent a whole half hour on that, then decided that a trip to the supermarket for sour gummy worms was in order. Sinead accompanied me there, and I ended up feeding her a very exciting dinner of chicken pasta. She provided cheesecake for dessert! While at the supermarket, I found this.......

The best marketing campaign ever. Well done Coca Cola.
Tuesday:
Woke up feeling ill. Was I actually sick, or just really hungry? Oh wait, that's why! I'm interviewing for Disney tonight! Spent the rest of the day freaking out about it.
I did buy a new CD though. Listening to my future Irish husband always makes things better.
Such an amazing album! Go buy it!

Wednesday:
Just realised nothing happened this day. Let's move on.

Thursday:
Wen't to Bokwa for the second time. For those of you who are scratching your heads right now, Bokwa is a form of exercise combining dancing and boxing. We dance in the shape of letters as well, so it's easy to get the hang of. My flatmates and I have decided we wan't to get fit, so we are going every week! It's such a good workout!

Friday:
The parental unit was over for a visit. We went out to lunch. Free food for me. Excellent.

Saturday + Sunday:
We've come full circle. Pretty much sat on my butt at home all weekend. I'm going out to visit my Aunty tomorrow to see about a potential job once I finish Uni, which is great because I'm poor. :)

Hope all of you lovely readers had a fantastic week!

Sunday Social!

Alright, it's Sunday Social time again! Let's go!
Sunday Social

1. What is something you have wanted to do but are afraid of?
Go diving in a shark tank! I think this would be super fun, and you'd probably get a mean adrenaline rush while you're submerged with a bloodthirsty killer fish. Discovery Channel tells me that sharks are the most misunderstood sea creatures. Really? I'm pretty sure Jaws fully planned to eat everything that moved.

Yeah, he looks real friendly.
2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I'm not actually one to plan in advance, for anything haha. But I would like to think that in five years I'll be living somewhere nice, with a steady job that pays well.

3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2012?
Finding out if I got accepted into the Disney ICP or not. If I don't get in, well, I probably won't be excited about much.

4. What are your hopes for your blog?
Obvs, get more followers and make some new friends. However, I fully acknowledge that this is partially my fault,  as I don't spend a great deal of time actually commenting on other people's blogs.
Also, I hope that my blog becomes a bit more interesting. But that is my life's fault, not mine. :)

5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
No. My hometown is basically a retirement village, and my current town is the definition of thug life. I actually see myself moving country.

6. What is your morning routine
Wake up suddenly from my deep slumber, cursing at the fact that I have to get up from my cozy bed. Then, have shower, eat breakfast, brush teeth, tame the wild lions mane that is my hair, stare at self in mirror and decide if I can be bothered looking pretty for Uni, then go to class.

I just HAD to put this one in. I practically peed myself laughing.

Sunday Social!

This week I'm linking up for the first time with Ashley and Neely for Sunday Social. :)

Sunday Social

1. Five items you can't live without on a daily basis? (water, food, shelter and clothes don't count)
 - My phone
- My eftpos card (for those hunger attacks while at uni)
- My laptop (got to keep up to date with my overseas shows)
- Peanut Butter (PB on toast is the best snack at the end of a long day)
- Deodorant. Can't be smelling nasty.

2. Your all-time favourite book?
Oooh this is a hard one! I would probably say 'Losing Gemma' by Katy Gardner. Its got a really interesting plot, with really good characters. It also has one of the best twisty endings I've ever come across.

3. Something you'd like to accomplish by the end of 2012?
Get a job. Uni is ending and I need to live.

4. If you could go back and re-live any year of your life, which year would it be?
Probably my first year of Uni, which would be 2010. I don't feel like I had that complete Uni experience.

5. What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them?
Spelling my name r-a-c-h-e-l! People always write it r-a-c-h-a-e-l, and it peeves me off.

This was fun! I'll for sure try to link up each week :)

A Bundle of Nerves!

Something exciting is happening in 3 days time! Myself and two of my besties are taking a trip to Auckland to interview for an internship at Disneyworld in Florida! The understatement of the year would be to say I'm just a little bit nervous. It's such a massive opportunity, and will pretty much decide what direction my life will head in once I finish university. There's a lot riding on this.

But first, a little backstory.

I first started planning this with my friend Abbie, and we had found out from a girl we went to high school with who had already done the internship the previous year. After checking out the website, we were certain that this would be pretty much the best thing ever.
We went to Auckland for the first recruitment evening earlier in the year, where Abbie interviewed. Me and my other two friends decided that we would regret missing our graduations from Uni, so we decided to wait and interview again in September for the August 2013 program.

Abbie got accepted for her program and she leaves in January next year. Check out her blog here. I'm sooo excited for her! Which leads us to this moment right now.

One half of me totally believes this is a possibility, and I'll for sure get accepted. If Abbie can do it, I can do it right? The other half of me is an extreme pessimist and strongly believes I'll get my hopes up, try really hard, and be disappointed. Again.
I'm terrified that come interview time, I'll do one of three things.
1. Freeze up and look like an idiot.
2. Get a crazy case of "talk really fast and no one knows what your saying", and look like an idiot.
3. Accidentally swear and ruin everything. (I have a bit of a sailor's mouth)
Another worry of mine is that I'm naturally a really shy person. I don't really make new friends very often, as i'm constantly aware of what others think of me. So, I'm really worried that my personality won't be as outwardly bubbly and in-your-face-happy as Disney employees are.

I think I've psyched myelf out pretty sufficiantly. Oh dear.

I'll have an update on Wednesday all about the meeting.

Byeee!
-Love Rach.

The Places You'll Go....

Tonight I added a bucket list to my blog. Another way for everyone out there in the blogosphere to get to know me just that little bit more. :) Obviously, the point of any bucket list is to take note of all the things that you hope to do in your life before you go. As I listed places and activities I one day hope to see and do, I realised that in my short life so far, I've actually done some awesome things that some people can only dream of doing.

I thought I'd share with you all some of those really cool things I've done.

I've been to England. This may not seem all that special, but when you come from New Zealand, this is pretty huge. In 2008, I was lucky enough to be a part of a drama trip that wen't to England for 3 weeks. We started by travelling around smaller towns, seeing all the sights. The last week we spent in London, seeing West End musicals, and again, seeing the sights.
This trip was amazing, and I hope to one day go back to do all the things we didn't get to do the first time around.

Here's me at Stonehenge. Contrary to popular belief, it's not that exciting.

On the London Eye. Big Ben in the background

Outside Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
I've also been to Fiji and Australia. I'm 99% sure I'll go back to Aussie within the next 2 years.
The last photo is my favourite encounter with members of the animal kingdom, and one of the coolest things I've ever done. I've also fed a giraffe, but I'm yet to receive the photographic evidence from my friend.

Swimming with Dolphins!! Look in the bottom right corner and you'll see the little guy :)
That's all for now!
Love you all !

On Your Screen

This week, the theme is 'Shows you love to hate'.

My pick isn't a show I love to hate, its just a show I straight-up hate. I tried watching it back in the day. It disagreed with me.

Gilmore Girls.

Ugh! You know how there's always that one show that you find incredibly annoying, but you can't really explain why. This is that show for me. Here are a few things about it that I despise.

1. The theme song. So annoying! Made even more annoying by my flatmates last year, who decided to watch all 7 seasons, and leave the menu on pause for an eternity - resulting in me having to hear that horrendous song over and over again. This is the song that will be playing in hell.

2. It is the cheesiest show I've ever encountered.

3. Everything else about it.

Ooh, one last thing that is related to this show that really grinds my gears? When my friends who love it try to tell me that I secretly do love the show, and am just pretending to hate it.
Wrong.
It's terrible and I actually do hate it, so stop trying to tell me otherwise. Cheers.

Not-So-Happy Hens.

Okay, so I mentioned a while back that I was in the process of doing some lab experiments involving chickens. Some of you may be thinking "how the hell do chickens relate to psychology?". Well...prepare yourselves...I'm about to drop some knowledge.

By putting hens in a chamber (which contains a feeder and a lit-up button), we can learn about shaping behaviour through the use of rewards. Basically, we have to teach the hen to peck the button in return for some food. The hen eventually comes to peck the button pretty reliably, as it has learnt that it will get food when it pecks. Happy Hens all round. Or so we thought. Turns out our hen is a bit of a diva, and DOES NOT like being picked up and put in a box. There were a few occasions where we had to chase her around the room after she refused to be weighed.

I promised that I would snap a picture of me and my hen. We got to name her as well, eventually settling on Florence. Flo for short. We then had a massive LOL when we realised that our experiments involved putting her in a machine. Hahaha! Still makes me laugh.

Here is the photo of myself and Florence the Hen! I apologize for it only being my arms in the photo. I had to crop it - it was from a bad angle and I may have had more than one chin.....

As you can see, she looks real happy.....

We've finally finished all of the experiments, so no more hanging out at the smelly animal lab :)

I'll be back tomorrow with my latest 'On your screen' link up.

The Hottest Guy Ever!

I'm house-sitting for the olds this week - they're in Australia for 10 days. They didn't even offer to take me. How rude.
Being home alone is boring me out of my mind! To make it worse, I had to drive back to Hamilton for one night to do my last lab experiment with my chicken. Turns out that everyone at my flat has gone home too, so my boredom continues.

What to do when I'm home all on my lonesome? Stare at hot dudes. Yes! Good plan Rachel!

So, did I just watch 3 Chris Evans movies in a row. Of course.

Chris Evans - setting the bar high for men since 1981. Captain America never gets old, even after having seen it 7 times. I mean, who doesn't want to see this over and over again.....

Also watched What's Your Number, as well as The Nanny Diaries. I feel like watching another. I don't own The Avengers on DVD yet (not everyone owns a blu-ray player! why did you put all the special features on the blu-ray!), so maybe I'll watch Sunshine, even though it does creep me out slightly.

Hopefully you all aren't as bored as me. If you are, just watch a Chris Evans movie. It'll cheer you up.
